Mid-Rise + Sports Hall - Camperdown NSW
The 'Regiment Building' is an exemplar of ESD (environmentally sustainable design). From the responsible selection and use of materials, to the careful implementation of passive/active solar, harvested and waste water management, green walls, and
maximum green space.
The primary materials used for construction, board-form concrete, timber, highly energy efficient glazing systems, recycled glass mosaics are all on display in the structure. The north and western fascades of the mid-rise building feature self-actuated vertical louvres that respond to the angle of the sun, drastically reducing the heat load on the glass. Additionally, the green roof acts as a thermal barrier, whilst putting rainwater to practical use and allowing for a highly usable, people-friendly, communal space.
The interior of the building echoes the organic palette of the exterior. Board-form concrete, generous use of timber, furniture and large scale rugs made from natural materials and fibres, recycled glass mosaics, and bespoke lighting. The design eschews busy
or unnecessary decoration in favour of balanced simplicity.
The forecourt is a green welcome to the building, featuring ryhthmic seating and planting, grassed areas and natural stone paving.
