GC House - Wentworth Falls NSW
This 3 bedroom Mountains pole style home was owner built in the 1960's and sits on a wonderfully lush and peaceful bush block of several acres. The downstairs portion of the house had been very roughly closed in at some stage in the past, and was being used primarily as storage. The owner's - who live predominantly in the city - wished to re-imagine and rebuild these spaces as bedrooms, one with an ensuite, in order to comfortably accomodate the many weekend guests that visit the property.
In response, we proposed one room as a more traditional bedroom, and the other as a 'Sleep-in-library' come living space, specifically designed to accommodate some of the many books and collected vintage objects the couple possessed. The solution also allowed for a significant amount of built-in storage beneath the bed platform.
The design has a timeless quality, and is completely unpretentious as per the owner's brief. Taking it's cues from the simple, square geometry of the house, whilst maintaining a light and airy holiday home feel. We also maximised views to the greenery immediately outside, echoing that in the joyous green subway tiles and spotted gum joinery in the ensuite.
The owner's were so delighted they asked us to completely renovate the kitchen as well. Once again, design lines and materials were kept simple and honest, with custom cabinetry in natural birch ply, and matt black laminated ply, cost effective and hard wearing laminate benchtops, and the same vibrant green subway tiles utilised in the ensuite. With it's galley design, the utility and functionality for a kitchen of this modest size is excellent. All building work and joinery was completed by THINKSPACE.
